Adorable Dog Surviving Off of Restaurant Scraps Rescued by Pleasanton Animal Service Officer

Police officials believe the pup was likely abandoned.

PLEASANTON, CA — A tiny dog rescued by a Pleasanton Police Animal Service Officer is recuperating at the Valley Humane Society. The animal was suffering from a broken leg when she was discovered living off of the scraps from a restaurant. Police said the dog, named Lucy, was likely abandoned.

"Poor girl was stumbling around, weak as can be," Officer Frankie Blavet said. "She collapsed in my arms, just laid in my lap and whimpered all the way to the vet. Saddest case I have had in a while."

According to Blavet, the dog's leg was broken in several places. The animal was emaciated, covered in fleas and open sores. Blavet took Lucy to the Valley Humane Society for treatment. Lucy will eventually be available for adoption at the shelter.

"We moved her to a foster home so they could keep a close eye on her; she’s primarily on crate rest and only allowed to walk for bathroom breaks and only on a leash," Emily Scholz of the Valley Humane Society said."She’s very friendly and eager to be with people."

The Valley Humane Society is located at 3670 Nevada St. in Pleasanton.
