Foothill Competition Cheer Wins at Southern California USA Regional Competition

First of four Southern California Regionals for the competition teams

Foothill’s competition cheer teams had another strong showing in the first of four Southern California USA Regional competitions they will attend this year and again qualified for USA Nationals on Saturday at the USA Regional competition held at Santa Margarita High School in Rancho Santa Margarita, California.

Foothill’s junior varsity (JV) squad was awarded first place in the JV show cheer novice division, competing against eight other JV novice teams from Southern California. The varsity squad was awarded third place in the varsity show cheer intermediate division. Varsity competed in mixed category of six small and intermediate sized teams and was the top small team in the division. Varsity competes as a small team at nationals. The group stunt teams did not compete this round. “Both teams did remarkably well given injuries and substitutions they faced in the past month,” Coach Kim DeJoy said at the end of the day.

The teams will return to Southern California twice in January to compete in three more USA Regionals. You can support them on their journey by following them at www.facebook.com/FHSFalconCheer.

The road to USA Nationals is 10 months long and takes an extremely high level of commitment from the cheerleaders and families. Foothill sports must fund 100 percent of their program costs, so Foothill competition cheer is extremely grateful for the support of the many sponsors who are helping to defray expenses and get the teams to USA Nationals.
