Man Pretending To Sleep In Stolen Car 1 Of 2 Arrested For Theft, Police Say

BREAKING: Police said methamphetamine and Amazon boxes from addresses in Tri-Valley were discovered during a search of the car.

PLEASANTON, CA — A man and a woman suspected of car and package thefts were arrested early Monday morning in Pleasanton, police officials said. A resident called police at 2:37 a.m. to report two suspects allegedly casing and trying to open doors of cars parked along Alvord Street. The resident told police the suspects got into a car parked nearby.

Officers who responded to the scene discovered a man, later identified as Hayward resident Jeremy Griego, 28, pretending to sleep inside a 1995 Volvo 850, which was allegedly reported as stolen. Officers also found San Leandro resident Miriam Bahram, 29, as she tried to hide behind the stolen car, police said.

“Bahram was in possession of stolen property from two of the vehicles parked on Alvord St.," police said in a statement. "Officers also found several burglary tools on Griego’s person including a window punch, vice-grip pliers, a screwdriver, and a flashlight. A search of the stolen vehicle by the officers produced several potentially stolen items, including Amazon merchandise boxes with shipping addresses in Livermore and Pleasanton.”
