New K9 Officer Joins Police Force and He Understands French
Vader is the Pleasanton Police Department's eighteenth police dog.
PLEASANTON, CA — A new K9 officer team has hit the streets of Pleasanton, police officials announced via social media. Officer Michael Wilson and Vader, a Belgium Malinois, recently completed a standard canine training course together. Wilson uses French, rather than traditional German or Dutch, when issuing commands to his furry partner, according to police.
“The best part is finally becoming a team after all of the training,” said Officer Michael Wilson said via social media. “It’s awesome to know that I have a partner right here in the car with me.”
Police said Vader, who lives with Wilson, is the Pleasanton Police Department’s eighteenth police dog.

In 2016, Pleasanton paid homage to their very first K-9 officer team. Cubby, who joined the force in 1974, was partners with Officer Jay Graves. City officials accepted entries from the community during a contest before finally deciding to name the off leash park Cubby’s Dog Park at Bernal.
