Golf Tourney Raises Money for Loma Linda University Medical Center

Golf icon Ken Venturi hosted about 120 golfers at Rancho Mirage golf course. The annual event has raised more than $3 million over 21 years.

Golf icon Ken Venturi hosted about 120 golfers at The Club at Morningside in Rancho Mirage on Monday for the 21st annual Proton Charity Invitational.

The event to invited guests to play golf and raise funds for proton therapy research at Loma Linda University Medical Center. Over the years, the invitational has raised more than $3 million for proton therapy research to treat cancer at the James M. Slater M.D. Proton Treatment and Research Center at Loma Linda University Medical Center.

“Mr. Ken Venturi and The Proton Charity Invitational have been strong supporters of proton therapy research and helped us in achieving many of our breakthroughs in cancer research,” said Dr. Jerry D. Slater, chairman of the Department of Radiation Medicine, which operates the proton treatment center.
