Guard Elections And Oust Harry Reid, Sharron Angle Tells Tea Party

The right-wing conservative addressed a crowd of nearly 200 Redlands Tea Party Patriots on Thursday.

Sharron Angle told a crowd of about 200 who gathered at a Mentone barbecue restaurant she was there for several reasons.

She said first she wanted to thank the Redlands Tea Party Patriots for their support. But she also wanted the Tea Party to reinvent itself and change the direction of the Republican Party, participate in the election process by volunteering to watch vote counts. She encouraged the crowed to work polling places to ensure fair elections. She also asked them to help her oust Harry Reid, a request that got a large response.

“I have to tell you my short term goal is to complete the task,” she said referring to her unsuccessful run against Reid for his senatorial seat in 2010. “I want to remove Harry Reid from the Senate. And I don’t want to wait until 2016 when he comes up for re-election. I think we can do that in 2012 by simply changing four (senate) seats from blue to red."

Reid's role would be minimized if Republicans took over the Senate by gaining a majority in 2012.

Angle’s appearance was presented by the Redlands Tea Party Patriots and held at Mill Creek Cattle Co. Angle has been touring with members of the Election Integrity Project, which is trying to stamp out the potential for voter fraud, project officials said.

Thursday’s stop was one of many.

Angle is also raising money for her OurVoice Super PAC, a political action committee she created before her run against Reid for the Senate seat. Angle said she had been on the road since Aug. 26 and did not know how much money the Super PAC had raised from other similar events.

But she did have a count on the number of Democratic seats that were identified as vulnerable. They included senators Bill Nelson from Florida, Claire McCaskill from Missouri, Ben Nelson from Nebraska -- who she referred to as “Corn Husker Kick backer” -- and Joe Lieberman, from Connecticut.

Those were the seats that needed the focus, she said.

As part of her effort, she said she was not taking money from the sales of her book, “Right Angle, One Woman's Journey to Reclaim the Constitution.” People were invited to donate $20 to the Super PAC and they received a signed copy from Angle.

“I want the money to go to make sure that we have a secure vote and to make sure that Harry Reid is no longer in leadership,” she said.
