Loma Linda University Medical Center Honors Two Fallen Servicemen
A plaque honoring Marine 1st Lt. Joshua M. Palmer, of Banning, and Army Spc. Michael A. Dahl, Jr. is unveiled at the Highland Springs Medical Plaza.
A very solemn and dignified ceremony on May 26 highlighted the unveiling of a memorial marker at Highland Springs Medical Plaza in Beaumont. The memorial honors local fallen heroes, Marine 1st Lt. Joshua M. Palmer, of Banning, and Army Spc. Michael A. Dahl Jr., of Beaumont.
More than 150 people attended the marker unveiling ceremony. The program included the presentation of colors, remarks by Beaumont Mayor Brian De Forge and Banning Mayor Barbara Hannah, and unveiling and wreath presentations by family members of the fallen servicemen.
Michael A. Dahl was 23 when he was killed Oct. 17, 2009, after a roadside bomb hit his tank in Afghanistan. Joshua M. Palmer was 24 when he died after getting caught under hostile fire in Iraq on April 8, 2004.

Families of the fallen soldiers, city officials, and the partnership at Highland Springs Medical Plaza, which include Loma Linda University Medical Center, Beaver Medical Group, and Redlands Community Hospital, hope the memorial honoring the two will provide a venue to reflect and remember not just the local fallen men, but all the men and women who have or are currently serving in the military.
This Memorial Day, we salute all the members of our Armed Forces!

Over 500 motorists raced around the famed Auto Club Speedway racetrack in Fontana on May 20 to dry off their newly washed vehicles. They also helped out the kids at Loma Linda University Children’s Hospital.
The motorists took part in the second annual Jaylen’s Car Wash. For $20, participants received a car wash and a lap around the racetrack to dry off. Proceeds from the event benefited the Children’s Hospital and the NASCAR Foundation.
About 60 volunteers participated in the car wash, led by little Jaylen Morris, a former heart patient at the Children’s Hospital. “Jaylen’s goal was to wash a ‘zillion’ cars. I don’t know exactly how many cars are a ‘zillion,’ but I think we came pretty close,” joked Auto Club Speedway president Gillian Zucker.
