Map with New County District Boundaries is Released

Changes are few, but significant, county officials said.

San Bernardino County officials have released a map of the newly approved district boundaries.

That map and the new district boundaries can be seen on the county’s website.

“The boundaries that reflect population changes that have occurred during the past 10 years,” county spokesman David Wert wrote on the County’s website. “The new districts go into effect Oct. 27 and are largely the same as the previous districts, but with a few significant differences.”

Upland south of Foothill Boulevard will be in the Fourth District. Lake Arrowhead, Running Springs and Green Valley Lake will be in the Second District. And Barstow, Lucerne Valley and Twentynine Palms will be in the Third District.

According to county’s records, Board Chairwoman Josie Gonzales and Supervisors Janice Rutherford and Gary Ovitt voted for the plan while Supervisor Brad Mitzelfelt opposed it. Neil Derry is listed as absent on Sept. 27, when the board took a vote, according to the records.

The County must review and, if necessary, redraw the supervisorial boundaries to ensure they are reasonably equal in population and conform to the federal Voting Rights Act. The new districts had to have been in effect by Nov. 1.

Population shifts and growth caused an overpopulated of 58,496 residents in the First District, 22,955 residents the Second District and 22,535 residents in the Third District. The Fourth District was under populated by 40,556 residents, and the Fifth District is under populated by 18,360 residents.
