Blog: America's Cup Trophy Arrives in the South Bay
The America's Cup Trophy makes an appearance at the King Harbor Yacht Club.
When a country wins the ‘Oldest Trophy in Sports’—the America’s Cup—it is toured around the victorious nation to celebrate the triumph.
Due to nefarious attempts over the years to abscond with this world-class prize, potential venues are not informed of its impending arrival until the last minute.
The King Harbor Yacht Club in Redondo Beach was contacted only two days ago of its forthcoming arrival.

Sponsored by the America’s Cup Committee, Team Oracle and the Golden Gate Yacht Club, the KHYC staff quickly set up an afternoon of ceremonies and presentations to acknowledge this honor.
The America’s Cup arrived at the KHYC with no fanfare in a nondescript vehicle loaded with an impressive contingent of security personnel. The Trophy travels in its own custom-designed Louis Vuitton travel trunk.

Every care is taken to preserve this symbol of sailing superiority—right down to the gloves the handler wears.
Due to the aforementioned security concerns, only club members and guests of club members were permitted to attend the ceremonies at the KHYC.
But the America’s Cup was here—right here in the South Bay—and we can all celebrate that!
A very special thanks goes out to Bret Coad, Ken Roberts and Vice Commodore Tom Ehman of the KHYC!
