Jackie's South Bay Weekend Guide for June 27, 2013

The 4th of July is next Thursday (yikes!) - Summer has barely begun and it’s already flying by! Before you start making plans for the four day holiday, take some time this weekend to enjoy a few fun events happening around the South Bay…..and don’t forget, the summer concert series have already begun at Nelson’s and Polliwog Park!

The Riviera Village Association presents the 35th Annual Riviera Village Summer Festival on Saturday, June 29 and Sunday, June 30. This very popular yearly event takes place from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. both days and admission is free. There will be over 250 vendor booths featuring arts and crafts, apparel, accessories, commercial, civic and non-profit organization exhibits and much, much more. Local acts and musicians will be performing live on the Community Stage both days so be ready to rock. The little ones will delight in the carnival rides and games and adults will appreciate the Beer Garden, where they can sit back and take in the ocean view, sea breezes and great music while enjoying a cold one. You don’t want to hassle with parking so leave the car at home and take out the bicycles (there’s a free bike valet) or use the free shuttle service to and from the event from the South High parking lot. For more information, visit the website at http://www.rvsummerfestival.com/ or call the event hotline at 310-531-8939. The Festival takes place on Catalina Avenue and surrounding streets from Avenue I to Palos Verdes Boulevard in Redondo Beach.

The Norris Center for the Performing Arts presents the final professional production of the 2012–2013 season – Nickelodeon’s Dora the Explorer. Dora’s Pirate Adventure comes to life onstage Saturday, June 29 and Sunday, June 30 for three performances. In this interactive musical stage show, Dora sets sail for Treasure Island with her best buddy, Boots the Monkey, her cousin Diego and all the rest of her friends. With help from the audience, they navigate over Dancing Mountain and through Silly Singing Bridge to confront the notorious Pirate Piggies before finding the treasure. All ends happily onstage with a “yo-ho-ho!” Show times are June 29 at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. and June 30 at 2 p.m. Tickets prices are $18 for children aged 12 and under and $25 for adults. Discounted group sales prices are available. For more information and to purchase tickets, call 310-544-0403 or visit the website at www.norriscenter.com. The Norris Center for the Performing Arts is located at 27570 Norris Center Drive in Rolling Hills Estates.
