Jeff Ginsburg City Council / Follow-Up to Jeff Ginsburg's Community Meeting at Alta Vista Community Center Questions & Answers

Hello district 1 residents & business owners!

Thank you for all (and our Mayor Aspel) who attended this month’s Community Meeting at Alta Vista Community Center! Below are the questions which came up during the meeting and in boldface below are the answers which I did not have readily available at the time of the meeting but organized below for your convenience. Also please “save the date” Saturday, September 14th, 9-11am for our next Community Meeting…

1. Receive up-to-date (Police, Fire & other Emergency) information affecting Redondo Beach by email and/or text message (no cost to you):

Text your ZIP CODE (90277 or 90278) to 888777 and/or sign up at http://nixle.com to OPT-IN for this new community service.

2. Will the developer (Legado Companies http://legadocompanies.com) be available for the next Community Meeting to discuss the proposed development at the “Bristol Farms” (PV Blvd & PCH) site?

I spoke to Heather Lee at Legado Companies and she is trying to get all of the project renderings together before the October Community Meeting. If she has everything by then she will attend the meeting, otherwise she will postpone her presentation until the following month.

3. Why are the street markings on Prospect near Torrance Blvd so narrow to the point of being dangerous?

Response from Public Works Director on 8/30/2013:

No changes were made to the street striping plan along Prospect Ave as a result of the recent resurfacing project. The lane widths and the amount of right of way space dedicated to on-street parking match what were there previously and are within acceptable transportation guidelines.

4. Why is the 700 block of Catalina Ave all marked up with white paint? Is sewer work about to get started? If so how long will that take and will the street be resurfaced afterwards?

Response from Public Works Director on 8/30/2013:

The white paint markings are for the City’s upcoming sewer collection system repair project. The City’s contractor, Mike Purlich and Sons, is set to begin construction in early September and will be working in areas throughout the City over the next several months. Following completion of each sewer site repair, the contractor will resurface the portion of the street affected by the work. Questions regarding specific repair locations should be forwarded to the City’s Project Manager, Geraldine Trivedi, in the Engineer Services Division of the Public Works Department. She can be reached at 310-371-1171 ext. 2036

5. Can a sign be added above the light at Torrance Blvd & Camino Real in addition to the sign in the center divider?

Response from Public Works Director on 8/30/2013:

Public Works Department personnel have placed a work order to install a sign above the light at Torrance Blvd and Camino Real.

6. How can a resident get more information about the Redondo Beach Citizen Police Academy?

All information is on the city website at this link: http://www.redondo.org/in_the_city/citizen_corps_council/citizenacademy.asp

7. How can anybody watch LIVE (or previously recorded) city council meetings?

For LIVE meetings use this city website link: http://redondo.org/RBTV and for archived (previously recorded) meetings follow the link(s) for the meeting date(s) you are interested in.

8. Why does Alta Vista leave the sprinklers on for so long that the sidewalks/streets are full of runoff water? Can the watering schedule be shortened to conserve water?

Response from Public Works Director on 8/30/2013:

Parks Services Division personnel have adjusted the irrigation control settings to conserve water and reduce runoff.

9. Waiting for update from last month: What is the owner name & contact information for Trader Joe’s Center? Residents are upset how dirty the area is most of the time and what can be done to get them to keep the center clean?

Response from Assistant City Manager on 8/13/2013:

We will contact the Trader Joes but would ask residents to speak to the store manager about concerns

10. Waiting for update from last month: Why isn’t Camino Real between Pearl & Juanita maintained by the city?

Response from Public Works Director on 8/30/2013:

Parks Services Division personnel are aware of the concern and will monitor the condition of the area more closely.

Thanks,

Jeff Ginsburg
