REDWOOD CITY, CA – Two people and their dog were displaced in a Redwood City fire that broke out Wednesday.

Redwood City fire officials initially said on Twitter that the attic fire was at a house in the 1200 block of Windsor Way, but have since clarified it was 2523 Roosevelt Ave. The two homes are next to each other on the corner of Windsor and Roosevelt.

When crews got to the scene just before 11 a.m., flames could be seen coming through the home's roof.

The flames had started in the attached garage and spread into the attic. Firefighters quickly got into the garage and then went to work on the attic, getting the fire under control in about 15 minutes, according to Fire Battalion Chief Chuck Lax.

There was heavy fire damage to the garage and attic, as well as smoke damage throughout the roughly 1,200-square-foot home, Lax said. The residents and their dog will need to find someplace else to stay.

One of the residents was home with the dog when the fire broke out but managed to get out safely. The cause of the fire is under investigation, Lax said.

Elsewhere on the Peninsula today, another fire in San Mateo was sending black smoke into the neighborhood.

As of 12:08 p.m, police said streets were closed in the area and would remain closed for about an hour.

"Avoid Roosevelt between Alameda and Connecticut," police said. "Road closed for an hour due to fire incident."
