Small business owners with staff have many options for classifying their employees.

EMPLOYMENT CLASSIFICATIONS

Did you know you that you can use five different classifications?

Regular Employees:  “Regular” employee means you are hired for an indefinite and unspecified duration.  Accordingly, your employment is at the mutual consent of you and the company and can be terminated at will either by you or by the company.

Regular Full-Time Employees:  If you are an employee who has successfully completed the Orientation Period and you are an employee who normally works a minimum of forty hours per week on a continuing basis performing assignments not considered temporary in nature, you are considered a full-time regular employee.  Regular full-time employees are eligible to participate in the company's benefit programs.

Regular Part-Time Employees:  An employee who has successfully completed the Orientation Period and is regularly scheduled to work less than 40 hours in a standard  workweek on a continuing basis performing assignments not considered temporary in nature.  Regular part-time employees are not eligible for company benefits.

Temporary Employees:  Temporary employees are those employees holding jobs of limited duration arising out of special projects, on-site assignments, abnormal work loads, or emergencies.  Temporary employees are not "regular" full-time or part-time employees.  If an employee is hired to fill a temporary position and then becomes a regular full-time or part-time employee, the employee will then begin the Orientation Period as if he/she were a newly hired employee.  Temporary employees are not eligible for company benefits.

 Agency Personnel:  Individuals who are working at a company site but are employees of and paid by an outside agency or third party.  These individuals are normally utilized for limited periods of time in emergency or rush work situations.  Agency employees are not eligible for company benefits.
