Reward days...

Don't derail your exercise routine with 'reward day'!

The other day I was in Costco and noticed a middle-aged lady meandering from one sample table to another --- I call this 'grazing'.  i know, I know... the temptation is sometimes irresistible.  Now what struck me about this lady was that she was dressed in 'workout' clothes and made a comment to one of the demonstrators that she had just finished a 'killer spin class' and she earned this treat.

Well, many of you may have been there... you worked very hard at losing a few pounds or inches and then you treat yourself to a 'reward day'.  Some even designate a particular day each week as the reward day regardless of what progress they may be making in their pursuit of fitness.  This is a big mistake

Lasting fitness requires not only life long commitment but lifestyle changes as well. Fitness and wellness involves among other things, exercise, rest and nutrition.  Munching down sample after sample is not a reward after exercise, as the lady in the above example stated, but more like a torpedo in the gut!

Here is an alternative — nobody is perfect and every once in a while temptation overcomes our willpower and oops!  we ate a piece of cake or whatever... My suggestion is to give yourself a reward meal every once in a while; not a whole day - just a whole meal.  You'll feel satisfied without the guilt.
