The best bookstore in town...

Library Booksale coming up

And I'm not just talking about the Rohnert Park-Cotati Library — where you can use your county-wide library card to borrow books, DVD's and more for free, plus do research or use the internet.

This time I am talking about the Friends of the Rohnert Park-Cotati Library's Bookstore. Directly inside the library, across from the Circulation Desk is a room that, like Doctor Who's time traveling Tardis machine, is truly “bigger on the inside” than it may look.

Bookshelves are organized by genre and other areas include movies, recorded books and a children's section with correspondingly sized chairs for the little ones to sit in while they peruse the collection arranged just for them. There is also a half-price cart propping the door open, just waiting for the bargain hunting reader. If you don't find what you want one day, keep in mind that the shelves are re-filled daily from the overflowing shelves, carts and boxes that lie in the Friend's work area of the library.

The bookstore is run entirely by community volunteers and expertly supervised by long-time volunteers Joan Schmutz and Olwen Petersen, and it's open daily Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and on Wednesday from 10 a.m.-7:30 p.m.

Coming up is an event that only happens twice a year, the Friends of the Library Booksale. Soon the Friends elves will be setting up tables in the library's meeting room. Hefty library dwarves will then deliver more boxes of books from a storage area (did I mention that there are fantasy books for sale also?) After a few days the room will be ready for the impatient customers waiting in line before the library is even open. Available for sale will be non-fiction and fiction, mysteries and science fiction, children's books, sets of books, CDs, VHSs, tapes and records.

The Summer Booksale will take place on Friday, June 10 from 10 a.m.-5:30 p.m. and on Saturday, June 11 from 10 a.m.–5:30 p.m. On Saturday from 3 p.m.–5:30 p.m. the prices get even better so that a bag of books will cost just $4 and it will be half-price on all individual books.

Want to donate items to the bookstore? Donations of clean and undamaged hardbacks and paperbacks, DVD's, CD's, videos and cassettes, and the last three years of magazines are accepted during library hours. Donations for this sale will be accepted through June 6. (Please take a break in donating from June 7-11).

The Rohnert Park-Cotati Library is located at 6250 Lynne Conde Way, just east of State Farm Drive. The library is open Monday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 10-6 and on Tuesday and Wednesday from 10-8. Check out library services and events on the library's website www.sonomalibrary.org.
