The Stray Pet Network: A Local Resource for Pet Owners and Animal Lovers

Attention animal lovers and pet onwers! I'll be sharing all about the stray pet network, a local online pet resource for you.

This is my introduction post to share with the community a wonderful online resource, how I got involved, and some of the things we do for love.

I became involved in The Stray Pet Network in July 2011 after seeing a post in the "pet" section of a local community bulletin board, called WaccoBB.net (over 11,000 and growing). It was about an orange tabby that was lost, probably taken from his home by a disgruntled former tenant. There was a reference to the StrayPetNetwork, a yahoo group.

I found that Rosanne had started this group in June 2009, after her cat went missing. She received a lot of calls from people who had seen orange tabbys, but none were her beloved Mac. She followed up on each report, and went out at night with her night vision camera. She took pictures of the orange tabbys that she saw, and posted them online.

Rosanne did a lot of research while trying to find Mac, and posted these resources on the Stray Pet Network. Word got around, and soon people were posting lost and found animals, mostly cats and dogs. People asked questions about so many things related to their animals, and members gave suggestions and helpful advice.

Topics range from how to get a cat to eat, mobile vets, vaccines, low cost neuter promotions, Rohnert Park vet assistance program (Silver Paws) for low income resident seniors, abused animals and a continual variety of animal related topics.

The site was intended to be a local site where residents could post lost and found pets, but it has grown into so much more. You can search for them online by typing in "Stray Pet Network", and it will take you right to it, or simply vistit them here.
