Trees Make Our City a Pleasant Place to Live, Work and Play!

How many trees does the City's Department of Public Works maintain? When's the best time to prune or trim a tree? What benefits does Rohnert Parks' urban forest provide ? Find out here!

Brigh vibrant colors, crunchy leaves on the ground — fall is the best season for trees! And, in Rohnert Park, there are many to enjoy; 16,000 in fact along our streets, in our parks and at public buildings such as City Hall, the Rohnert Park-Cotati Regional Library and the Department of Public Safety. Our lush urban forest brings bright, beautiful colors during the fall. It also protects the environment, provides shade and reduces heat on hot summer days.

This is also the dormant season for trees and is the ideal time to prune or trim any tree branches that may pose problems during the rainy winter season. The city's arborist and landscaping staff are using this time to prep trees on public property for the winter by trimming low hanging branches or removing dead branches that may fall during a severe storm.

You can also help to prevent any potential hazards during a winter storm by using this time to prune trees in your yard or at your place of business. Removing lower branches or any that are growing into utility lines are common reasons to prune a tree. Please contact the city's Public Works Department by calling 707- 588-3300 for more information about safe and proper methods for pruning trees.
