Welcome to Public Works

Welcome to Public Works Corner, a weekly blog to build awareness, provide information and answer questions about the services provided by Rohnert Park's Public Works Department.

Have you ever had a problem with a street light, had questions about maintaining trees or wondered who could fix that pot hole? Perhaps at one time you had to report a water leak or were concerned about flooding along a neighborhood street. Chances are you contacted the city's .

Public Works manages a variety of services and programs throughout the community including the ongoing maintenance of streets, trees, parks and public facilities. The Department is also responsible for the ongoing operation and maintenance of public utilities including water, the stormdrain system and wastewater/sewer system.

Maintaining public facilities is a 24/7 operation. Crews work around the clock and respond to more than 5,000 requests from the community each year. Public Works crews work behind the scenes ensuring the ongoing operation of facilities and infrastructure.

While service calls are a significant portion of our work, Public Works is also involved in many initiatives that impact the community, Sonoma County and the Bay Area region. Climate action as well as energy efficiency and conservation is one area of focus. Recently, LED lighting was installed at the Community Center and we are working with the County to explore the possibility of installing charging stations within the library parking lot.

Public Works coordinates efforts with engineering staff to assist with the planning and installation of bike lanes and cross walks along city streets, and partners with the Sonoma County Water Agency to ensure proper creek maintenance.

Through our Adopt-A-Park program, graffiti removal program and community clean-up projects, Public Works partners with community members and local organizations to organize events and volunteer opportunities that maintain and encourage community involvement.

This is only a sampling of the services and projects we povide. Please check back each week and continue to learn about the Department of Public Works.
