The designations recognize key neighborhood architecture, trigger extra review for exterior changes, and make owners eligible for Mills Act property tax reductions if they commit to preserving these historic buildings.

Assembly sends Sacramento homelessness JPA bill to governor on unanimous vote after floor debate over spending and strategy (sidekick.news) — State lawmakers have unanimously advanced SB 802, a bill creating a Sacramento County joint powers authority to coordinate homelessness response among local governments and nonprofits, sending it to the governor for final consideration. The measure sparked debate over housing-first strategies and homelessness spending but still passed 63-0, marking a major step in reshaping how Sacramento tackles its homelessness crisis.
   

3. Grant Pacers return 17 starters after D-1 semifinal run (kcra.com) — Grant High's Pacers head into the new football season with 17 returning starters and sky-high expectations after last year's Division I semifinal run. Sacramento fans can watch standout receiver Koby "Cheese" Shabazz, one of the city's top talents, along with heavily recruited teammates Rahzario Edwards and Julian Bruno chase another deep postseason push.
   

4. Millions In CA May Get Surprise $68 Payments From Class Action Suit Over Privacy Violations (patch.com) — Sacramento-based Sutter Health is sending out about $68 payments to eligible Californians after a class-action settlement over alleged patient data sharing, with checks and digital payouts going out through October 4. The case was filed in Sacramento Superior Court and covers people who used Sutter's MyHealthOnline portal between 2015 and 2020, though the deadline to file claims has already passed.
