SAN DIEGO, CA — As we head into the new work week, we've rounded up the stories you may have missed Saturday through Monday to prepare you for the week ahead.
But before we jump into Southern California's top stories, residents should expect cooler temperatures this week and a chance of rain in parts of the region, according to the National Weather Service.
"A low pressure system moving into California brings cooler and breezy conditions Monday through the middle of the week, along with a slight chance of precipitation Tuesday afternoon into Wednesday morning," NWS San Diego forecasters wrote Sunday. "Cool weather and breezy onshore flow persist into next weekend."
In other news, a Disney star tackled a trespasser at his Los Angeles home; a bomb threat prompted a beach evacuation; a hot air balloon made an emergency landing in a couple's backyard; and two dogs were killed in a fire. Also, a tense standoff involving an armed man holed up inside his vehicle on a freeway ended after five hours; and a woman who trafficked arms on behalf of the Iranian government was arrested at Los Angeles International Airport.
Plus, enrollment in California K-12 schools, and in schools across the country, is declining rapidly as birth rates drop and immigration rates fall. This school year, California had the largest decline in enrollment rates since 2021-22, after schools returned from the pandemic.
