Back-to-Back Quakes Shook NorCal Within An Hour: Did You Feel Them?
Two overnight earthquakes shook Northern California, waking sleepers and rattling nerves.
NORTHERN CALIFORNIA ā Two earthquakes shook residents across Northern California overnight Thursday, waking sleepers and rattling nerves.
The first quake happened at 12:52 a.m. near Cobb, in Lake County, north of Sacramento. That one registered a preliminary magnitude of 2.6 and a depth of just under 1.5 miles, according to the United States Geological Survey
The second one, centered in Boulder Creek, about 15 miles north of Santa Cruz, struck at 1:41 a.m., the USGS reported.

The 4.6 magnitude quake, with a depth of more than 6 miles, rattled residents awake as far as Santa Rosa in Sonoma County and San Rafael in Marin.
There are no reports of injuries or damage from either tremblor. But Boulder Creek residents woke up to rattling windows and items knocked off shelves. One man told news reporters this morning that he hadn't felt a quake that strong in 30 years.
