114K Lose Power, Trees Topple As Fierce Wind Rips Through The Bay Area

SAN FRANCISCO BAY AREA — Fierce winds roared into the Bay Area Tuesday afternoon downing trees and power lines, blocking streets and highways, and knocking out electricity to some 114,000 homes and businesses.

No injuries have been reported.

PG&E spokesperson Mayra Tostado said the Peninsula is hit hardest with 52,106 are without power followed by 34,505 in the South Bay; 12,676 in the East Bay; 10,599 in the North Bay; and 2,514 San Francisco.

Thousands more have already had power restored as crews work quickly to repair damage.

At San Francisco International Airport multiple wind gusts above 60 MPH have been recorded, including one gust at 68 MPH.

Caltrans and city workers around the Bay Area are sawing up trees and clearing them from roadways, including one at Treasure Island on the Bay Bridge.
