Cable Car Repairs In September

Service will be suspended on all but one line during 10 days this month. One line remains open for tourists.

SAN FRANCISCO, CA — To accommodate repair work to San Francisco's cable cars, shuttle buses will substitute all cable car lines for ten days in the month of September.

San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency will run bus shuttles instead of the Powell-Hyde, Powell-Mason and California cable car lines for 10 days starting Sept. 13 as part of a project to refurbish the gearboxes that power the cable car system.

The gearboxes have been in use since 1984, according to the agency.
