Proposition 1
This is the Veterans and Affordable Housing Act, which called for a $4 billion bond measure to create additional affordable housing options for “veterans, families, people experiencing homelessness, and individuals with disabilities.” This proposition not only creates and preserves affordable homes, but also helps create more than 130,000 jobs throughout the state. Greater than any other state in the country, California has the highest percentage of unsheltered veterans, and is home to 9 of the 10 least affordable major metropolitan areas. Proposition 1 works to reduce both of those statistics.

Proposition 2
Otherwise known as the No Place Like Home Act, Proposition 2 provides $2 billion to create supportive housing for people who live with mental illness and are also currently experiencing or prone to experiencing homelessness. People who live with mental illnesses are extremely vulnerable to becoming homeless, particularly those whose mental illness goes untreated. Proposition 2’s supportive housing not only gives these people a place to live, but also access to important services and treatment options.

Thanks to all of the legislation surrounding affordable housing and addressing the housing crisis early this January, plus the running start in November 2018, 2019 is shaping up to be the #Year4Housing.
