UCSF Doctor Receives $1 Million Grant

The grant from the American Heart Association is meant to further innovation in cardiovascular health.

SAN FRANCISCO, CA — A doctor at the University of California at San Francisco received a selective grant from the American Heart Association to further innovation in cardiovascular health.

Dr. Michelle Albert will be given $1 million over the course of five years. She said a team of doctors will use the grant to focus on obesity and adversity among socially disadvantaged patients.

UCSF will approach the topic through collaboration with the YMCA San Francisco, said Albert, a cardiologist with expertise in preventative cardiovascular medicine.

She specializes in managing critically ill heart patients suffering from coronary heart disease, heart valve disorders, heart muscle issues and a range of other illnesses, according to the heart association.

"We are interested in answering important, clinically relevant patient-centered questions," Albert said in a statement.
