Planned Parenthood Center Opens in San Mateo

The center announced its opening Monday.

Planned Parenthood opened its newest center in San Mateo this week, after announcing the agency had dropped its bid to open a similar center in Redwood City.

The center, which will provide preventative services as well as educational resources, is located at 35 Baywood Ave. in San Mateo.

Preventative services include breast- and cervical-cancer screenings, family planning, prenatal care and primary care for adults and children, according to spokeswoman Lupe Rodriguez.

Educational resources for the community include providing services to help families plan their pregnancies and tools for families to increase communication about sexual health.

The center, which is currently open part-time, also plans to bring youth development services to the area, including its  Teen Success program that helps teen mothers maintain their family size and complete their education.

Planned Parenthood Mar Monte had initially planned to open a center in Redwood City, but after months of working with city officials the location was switched to San Mateo.

"Planned Parenthood Mar Monte is dedicated to providing high quality health care for all individuals, families and communities. We appreciate the opportunities to work with the people of San Mateo County to provide these services," a news release stated.
