San Mateo Walgreens to Offer EV Charging Stations

The two stations in San Mateo are expected to open by December.

Just in time for some holiday shopping, two Walgreens stores in San Mateo will soon be home to brand-new electric vehicle charging stations.

The electric vehicle charging stations are two of 800 being added to Walgreens throughout the country, including 47 in the Bay Area, according to officials with the project.

Installation of the charging stations began earlier this month at the Walgreens at 191 E. Third Ave. and 4070 S. El Camino Real in San Mateo.

“The EV charging stations will give our customers another reason to visit us at Walgreens along with our low prices, excellent customer care, and pharmacy services,” Todd Horton, district manager for San Mateo County, said in a statement.

Nationally, this program is part of an ongoing effort by Walgreens to make green changes a company priority. According to Walgreens, the company is moving forward with programs to put solar panels on top of stores, upgrade to energy efficient refrigerators and appliances, and switch out less efficient light bulbs.

“We are constantly upgrading our older stores’ and their physical infrastructure to reduce our carbon footprint and increase efficiencies within our organization.” said Horton.
