Marin County Hits 200 Coronavirus Cases
Of the confirmed cases, 50 remain active. There have been 140 documented COVID-19 recoveries, according to county data.
MARIN COUNTY, CA — Although the number of confirmed cases of the coronavirus reached 200 Tuesday in Marin County, public health officials said community members have helped flatten the curve.
Officials reported one new case of the virus Tuesday, while the county's COVID-19 death toll remained at 10.
"Your continued work as a community, sheltering in place, has flattened the curve over the past month and shows how powerful we can be when we act together," said Dr. Matt Willis, the county's public health officer.

In order to begin easing the shelter-in-place order, Willis said public health officials must be able to measure the impacts of any changes Marin makes.

Officials continue to track the total number of local hospital visits and those due to respiratory illnesses in an effort to detect early signs of increased infection rates in the county. The three emergency departments in the county — MarinHealth Medical Center, Novato Community Hospital and Kaiser San Rafael — send the county daily reports.
Over the past week, the number of emergency department and emergency medical services visits and those due to respiratory illnesses have been lower than daily averages seen in January 2019 through April 2019.
Emergency department visits were notably below January-April 2019 averages and less than half of daily visit levels seen in January and February of this year, according to county data. Emergency medical services calls have also been below January-April 2019 averages over the past week.
"We're not seeing any significant spikes or increases in respiratory illness from people calling 911, which is reassuring that we're not seeing current surges," Willis said.
A total of 37 people have been hospitalized due to the virus since the county's first COVID-19 case was reported on March 8. Six people remained hospitalized Tuesday.
To date, the majority of confirmed cases and hospitalizations have been residents 50 or older. All coronavirus-related deaths have been residents 65 or older.
Marin has tested 2,834 people for COVID-19. This number includes tests conducted at the county's drive-thru testing site as well as tests conducted by commercial labs and hospitals.
Of the confirmed cases, 50 remain active. There have been 140 documented COVID-19 recoveries, according to county data.
