Marin County Prepares For November 2020 Election Amid Coronavirus
More people could end up voting by mail with ballots being sent to all registered voters across the state.

MARIN COUNTY, CA — The Marin County Elections Department is adjusting its preparation for the November General Election following Gov. Gavin Newsom's executive order to send vote-by-mail ballots to registered voters statewide. The order requires county elections officials to send mail-in ballots to all registered voters and make sure they have access to in-person voting opportunities amid the coronavirus pandemic.
There are currently 167,000 registered voters in Marin, and typically 70 percent or more vote by mail already, according to County Registrar of Voters Lynda Roberts.
The vote-by-mail rate was 70 percent for the last presidential election in 2016. The figure for the March 2020 presidential primary was 72.7 percent, matching the number from the November 2018 mid-term election and just above the state average of 72.08 percent, according to the Registrar of Voters.

The Secretary of State's office, which oversees elections, will work with the governor's office, the legislature and other county elections officials to provide guidance for an accessible and safe election, Roberts said. Counties should know by the end of May about minimum requirements for in-person voting opportunities.
