Meet San Ramon Police Department's 80-Year-Old (Honorary) SWAT Officer
Criminals in San Ramon better get out of town, because octogenarian Barbara Salazar is ready to protect and serve.
San Ramon, CA — Ride along with police. It was the last item on her bucket list. Police say longtime San Ramon resident Barbara Salazar, 80 years young (trust us, watch the video), recently asked to go on a ridealong at the San Ramon Police Department.
So they invited her to join one of their officers for a patrol shift. Most citizen ridealongs last a few hours and wrap, but Salazar ran radar, assumed the role of chief — at least for lunch— and even did a little shooting at the range after showing off her defensive tactics skills.

The former model told NBC Bay Area that she always wanted to be a "police lady" but said women back then instead went to secretarial school. Salazar spent the day with one of the department's female officers to get an authentic look at a day on patrol in San Ramon.
"Barbara is an amazing lady, and we had a great time fulfilling her bucket list request," Officer Becky Chestnut told Patch. "She was fantastic at the range and loved sitting on our police motorcycle. She even got to meet Hector, one of our canines."
