📰 News we're reading

1. Sonoma City Fees Changing Sept. 1 (patch.com) — Sonoma residents and businesses face a change in city service, permit, and application fees starting Tuesday, Sept. 1, with costs determined by the schedule in effect when applications are submitted. Anyone filing Building, Planning, or other permits is urged to review the new fees, submit before the deadline if desired, and plan around a one-day shutdown of the city's online Permit Center.

2. Sonoma Squeezes More Summer Into September (patch.com) — Sonoma is stretching summer into September with a free outdoor screening of "The Incredibles" on the Sonoma Plaza lawn behind City Hall, complete with free popcorn and family-friendly vibes. Residents can pair the movie night with takeout from local restaurants and keep enjoying the season at Sonoma's ongoing Tuesday night market before autumn officially arrives.

3. Community friction and data clash over new Sonoma 'Bike Boulevard' traffic circle (sonomanews.com) — A controversial temporary traffic circle on Third Street West in Sonoma is being removed, and the city's Traffic Safety Committee has voted to drop a permanent circle from the Bike Boulevard plan in favor of speed cushions and four-way stops. Neighbors say the test circle created unsafe interactions and truck issues, while city data showed slower speeds. Officials will now redesign the corridor before permanent construction begins this fall, using Go Sonoma grant funds that can't be shifted elsewhere.

4. Sonoma Valley Regional Library's featured September artist: Wendy Walter (sonomanews.com) — Sonoma Valley Regional Library will showcase Northern California painter Wendy Walter as its featured artist for September, with an artist reception on Sept. 11 from 4 to 5:30 p.m. at the Forum Room, 755 W. Napa St. Walter's oil and acrylic works explore the mood and hidden stories in nature, and the exhibit will be open throughout the month during library hours when the room is free.

5. Sonoma Clean Power And CTE Foundation Launch Mobile STEM Kit Lending Library For Local Schools (ksro.com) — Sonoma Clean Power and the Career Technical Education Foundation have launched a mobile STEM Kit Lending Library for middle and high schools across Sonoma and Mendocino counties, including classrooms serving Sonoma students. The rotating clean‑energy kits, complete with seven-lesson curricula, are now reservable for fall and can be picked up at Sonoma Clean Power's customer center in downtown Santa Rosa. Organizers hope to connect local teens with growing renewable‑energy careers.
