WALNUT CREEK, CA — The Walnut Creek Police Department reported Monday that charges officially were filed by the District Attorney for arrests made in separate cases of home burglaries and vehicle vandalism.

Three charges of felony residential burglary were filed against Gilberto Fuentes, a suspect in three Walnut Creek break-ins reported in late 2019, officials said.

"It was determined that he would case the areas while pretending to work as a landscaper," police said. "Once the (residents) would leave, he would burglarize their home." He was arrested by the department's Officer Duncan and Detective Deng.

And in March, a suspect, Varun Suresh, was arrested for reportedly using a knife to vandalize vehicles at an area car dealership.

"Officer Solorio arrived with K-9 Remus and gave commands for the subject, Varun Suresh, to drop the knife," police said. "Suresh dropped the knife, but continued to act in an aggressive and threatening manner. Officer O'Brien arrived on the scene and helped take Suresh into custody."

Suresh also allegedly assaulted a doctor when he was taken to a hospital for treatment, and he was charged by the District Attorney with charges of suspicion of felony vandalism, threats and assault.

"This was a job well done by our patrol team and detectives," the department added.
