Man Killed In Industrial Accident

He fell into equipment at a facility owned by Watsonville-based Monterey Mushrooms, The Salinas Californian reported.

ROYAL OAKS, CA β€” A man was killed Friday afternoon after falling into an unspecified piece of equipment at a Royal Oaks facility owned by Watsonville-based Monterey Mushrooms, The Salinas Californian reported.

Authorities arrived at the 777 Maher Road farm at 3:18 p.m. Thursday. The Monterey County Coroner's Office and Occupational Safety and Health Administration are investigating the incident, the paper reported.

Monterey Mushrooms did not elaborate on the circumstances of the incident in a statement, but said its thoughts and prayers are with the worker's family and the company.

"We are saddened by the loss of a Monterey Mushrooms team member at our Royal Oaks farm (Thursday)," the statement said. "We are working closely with state and local authorities in the ongoing investigation of this unfortunate incident."

The incident has not yet appeared on the OSHA site. A call to the sheriff's office Friday morning was not immediately returned.
