Here are the top stories in Boulder today:

  1. More Colorado Starbucks employees vote to unionize. Employees at three more Denver and Colorado Springs-area Starbucks locations have voted to unionize, bringing the total number of organized locations to five in the state. (CPR)
  2. Affordable housing in Boulder is one way to create community wealth. In a city where the median home price is more than $1 million, Boulder's affordable housing program is putting homes within reach for low-to middle-income buyers. (9News)
  3. Boulder coffee shop opens its doors as a gateway to connection. Boulder's January Coffee, which opened on May 1st, is located just east of 30th Street on Walnut Avenue. The owners plan to bring in coffee from all over the country, including serving its mainstay blend from Arkansas-based Onyx Coffee Lab. What's interesting is the evolution of this coffee shop. The owners of January Coffee used to work at OZO coffee, which was started in 2007 by Justin Hartman, who used to work at Vic's Coffee. Now, January Coffee has opened in a retail space that was former Vic's location. Full circle right there. (Weekly)
  4. Food costs spiral out of control for Boulder's Meals on Wheels program. The monthly cost of food has risen from $13,000 to $27,000. But, Meals on Wheels of Boulder is not planning to increase the cost of meals to those it serves. The program relies on funding from both government sources and donations from the community. (FOX31)
  5. Rabid bat found in Boulder County. Boulder County Public Health has issued a warning after a rabid bat was found in Longmont near near Nelson and Airport roads. While there's no threat to public health at this time, if you find a bat or other animal that you suspect has rabies, call your local animal control immediately. (Patch)
