Here are the top stories in Boulder today:

  1. Water quality is at the root of Boulder's plan for fire mitigation. The City of Boulder is pouring resources into a forest thinning plan designed to mitigate fire risk, and protect the city's water supply. (Reporting Lab)
  2. Diagonal Plaza Redevelopment at Diagonal Plaza approved by City Council. The deteriorated commercial center has been in limbo for years. After years of debate, a new site plan has been approved by Boulder City Council for a new, mixed-use development with retail space along 28th Street, community space and 282 residential market-rate, workforce and permanently affordable units. (CO Daily)
  3. Boulder Valley School District is hosting public budget meetings next week. BVSD's 2023 budget is increasing employee compensation by more than $17 million for employee compensation: $12.5 million for school staffing, as well as $4.3 million for facility improvements. (Yahoo!)
  4. Boulder County lifts fire restrictions. The recent storms in Colorado have increased relative humidity and fuel moisture and significantly reduced fire danger around the county. These improved conditions have allowed Sheriff Pelle to determine that fire restrictions are no longer necessary. (CBS4)
  5. Summit County Commissioners pass another short-term rental moratorium. The vote puts a nine month moratorium on the issuance of any short-term rental licenses in neighborhood zones in Summit County. Many question whether or not banning short-term rental licenses would help locals find housing. The challenge the commissioners and county staff face, is whether or not this type of action actually impacts affordability in Colorado's mountain towns that are desperate for workforce housing.
