More Than 150 Volunteer To Help Boulder County Hospitals
The county is preparing for a surge of patients, and practicing, retired and non-practicing medical professionals have signed up to help.
BOULDER COUNTY, CO — More than 150 medical and mental health professionals have volunteered to help Boulder County hospitals deal with a surge of patients amid the new coronavirus pandemic. The volunteers are active, practicing, retired or non-practicing, health officials said.
Chris Campbell, the unit coordinator for Medical Reserve Corps of Boulder County, said he's impressed by number of people who've signed up.
“We are so grateful for the interest we’ve received so far,” he said in a statement. “While we can’t know for sure what will be needed, the level of interest to step up like this helps us all be better prepared.”

We are preparing for a potential surge in demand for hospital care,” Campbell said. “MRCBC volunteers will be needed to help hospitals care for people who need care at a time when the healthcare system will be extremely challenged.”
Boulder County Public Health and the local hospitals have planned and trained for medical surge situations for more than a decade, and are working with state officials to plan for intensive care and ventilator needs, officials said.
Despite the outpouring of support, more medical professionals are needed, including those who are active, practicing, retired, or non-practicing, health officials said.
