Here are the top stories in Boulder today:

  1. Boulder County has scheduled a proscribed burn at Ron Stewart Preserve on Friday. Smoke and flames may be visible several days after the burn, which will take place east of Lyons near Rabbit Mountain over the weekend. Updates about the managed burn will be posted on Boulder County Parks & Open Space's website. (CO Daily)
  2. How serious is the affordable housing crisis in the U.S.? Here are three charts that show just how bad it really is. The last two years of exponential rental price growth and soaring home values have widened the gap. (Motley Fool)
  3. PUC tells Xcel to speed up the process so community solar gardens can expand. Xcel is the largest electric utility in Colorado, which had requested a "timeout" in awarding bids to developers that were building solar gardens to provide free or low cost electricity. (CO Sun)
  4. Skull and antlers stolen from Rocky Mountain National Park. When famed bull elk died from natural causes last year, park officials were happy to let nature run its course and allow Kahuna's corpse to decay naturally. However, the elk's body parts were removed from the park some time last March near Estes Park. Park rangers are investigating the theft, since removing natural resources inside Rocky Mountain National Park is prohibited. (CPR)
  5. Democracy's worst enemy comes from within. The old saying that "Freedom isn't Free" is playing out in the Ukraine, and the U.S. should be taking a closer look at itself as authoritarianism tries to take control in the Russian invasion. (CO Newsline)

  • Was it a snake or a bomb? Turns out it was neither. What is being described as a "modified jump rope" snarled traffic and shutdown Highway 36 between Baseline and Table Mesa last Friday night. (FOX31)
