Grass Fire Arsonist, Burning Car, Woman Found Unresponsive
Carjacking, Road-rage gun shots, smooth talking elder robber and more in this weeks Colorado Springs police reports

COLORADO SPRINGS, CO -- The following items appeared in the Colorado Springs police blotter between Mar. 2-9. These incidents represent only a portion of calls to which the police responded. Any person named as arrested is not-guilty until proved so in a court of law.
March 2
Woman reports rape. A woman filed a sexual assault report around 10:50 p.m. in person at the Colorado Springs Police Operations Center. She told police she had been in a retail store in the 3200 block of East Platte Avenue, when a strange man threatened her with physical harm, police reports said. She was taken to a motel and sexually assaulted, she told police. Police took the woman to a local hospital. The investigation continues, led by the department's major crimes detectives, police said.

Three arrested in suspected burglary ring investigation. Early in 2018, Colorado Springs police noticed a pattern of residential burglaries Stetson Hills and Falcon patrol divisions. Police responded around 1:30 p.m. to a suspected burglary-in-progress in the 1200 block of Diamond Rim Drive. A car that had been described in connection with other burglaries was located, and stopped. Showne Jackson, Chanyce Moore, Josiah Etheridge, who were in the car, were charged with burglary and booked into the El Paso County jail.

Woman found unconscious. Around 5 a.m., police were summoned to a residence in the 3400 block of Kirkwood Drive to investigate a report of a woman who was not breathing. The woman was alive, but non-responsive and was taken to a local hospital, where she was said to be in critical condition. Police did not give the age of the woman. Police are continuing to conduct a criminal investigation into the incident. Alleged drive-by shooter arrested after pursuit. A witness called police after seeing people a car firing a handgun at another car around 6:30 p.m. near Hancock Avenue and Westmoreland Road. Two men in a white sedan were described to police as firing handguns at a while Dodge Durango, which sped away from the intersection. Squad cars caught up with the sedan near Jackson Street and North Wahsatch Avenue and tried to curb the car, but the driver refused to stop, police said. A passenger jumped out of the car and fled on foot, but was taken into custody. Daniel Lovato, 38, was carrying a handgun and narcotics, police said. Police found the abandoned sedan near the 600 block of North Royer, and K9 dogs could not find the driver. Police identified the driver as Robert Lamont and issued a warrant for his arrest.

Warrant issued in Yuma Street homicide. Around 1 a.m. March 4, police found a dead man who had been shot in the street in the 900 block of Yuma Street. The El Paso County Coroner's office identified the victim as Darryl Tyrone Clark, 33. On March 5, the CSPD homicide unit obtained an arrest warrant for Adonis Ondrae Anderson, 44, on the charge of first-degree murder. Anderson is still at large.
March 5
Shot fired into house. A woman called police around midnight when a former friend showed up in a white van at her home in the 1000 block of East Columbia Street. Fearing the acquaintance would rob her, she threw the person out of her home, she said. But about 15 minutes later, a dark colored vehicle parked in front of her house and at least one shot was fired from the car that struck a kitchen window. The case is under investigation.
March 6
Body, bomb found in burning car. A man's body was found inside a burning car around 1 a.m. in a parking lot near the intersection of West Cimarron Street and Sahwatch Street Tuesday morning. when fire fighters came and extinguished the blaze, officers saw a body inside the car. The body was determined to be a man, and he had shot himself, said Lt. Harold Black, Colorado Springs PD's public information officer. Police also found an "explosive device" in the car, and the Metro Bomb Unit was summoned to detonate the bomb Tuesday morning, Black said. Woman sought for alleged multiple robberies of elderly. Colorado Springs police asked the public for help finding a woman accused of talking her way into the homes and cars of elderly residents, and then allegedly stealing purses and valuables. Police said Latavia Rocherre Vaughns, 30, is wanted on multiple felony warrants for robbery and is considered armed and dangerous.
Robbery reported in apartment building. Police were summoned to an apartment building in the 3800 block of Half Turn Road around 9:15 p.m. A woman said she was followed into the building from the parking lot by two men who demanded her purse. One of them displayed a pistol, she told police. The men were described as "black males." The investigation is ongoing.
March 7
Carjacking investigation at Memorial Park. Officers were summoned to Memorial Park around 7 p.m., where a person told police he'd been sitting in his car in the parking lot near the skate park when a strange man came up, displayed a handgun and forced the man out of his car at gunpoint, he told police. The robber then drove away in the man's car. The make and model of the car were not reported. The investigation is ongoing.
March 9
Man reportedly setting fires hear highway. A witness said he saw a man purposefully setting fires near near the intersection of South Nevada Avenue and I-25 around 7:30 a.m. Emergency teams found two separate fires actively burning to the east of the 1200 block of South Nevada Avenue. A small fire was located about 15 feet from the back wall of one of the structures on the block. One officer was able to put out the fire quickly with his fire extinguisher. The other fire, located to the east of the first fire, was extinguished by Colorado Springs Fire Department.
The witness described the alleged arsonist as a white male approximately 60 years old wearing a dirty brown jacket and having a scruffy beard "purposely setting fires in the area." The investigation is continuing.
These incidents represent a portion of the police calls that took place on the specified dates. Under the Colorado Criminal Justice Records Act, departments have discretion in releasing police incident reports. Because some reports are for alleged felonies, they are still under investigation and are often not reported to media.
