1. Weekly Jail Bookings for 8/30/26 to 9/5/26 (junctionnow.com) — This week's Mesa County Detention Center report details dozens of recent bookings tied to Grand Junction, ranging from DUI and probation violations to assault, child abuse, drug distribution, and protection order violations. Residents can see the scope of local criminal charges filed between August 30 and September 5, along with a reminder that these are allegations and may stem from older cases.
   

2. Topaz Stories: Museums of Western Colorado collaborates with Rocky Mountain PBS (westernslopenow.com) — Residents can visit a free "Topaz Stories" exhibit at the Museums of Western Colorado's Wittman Building in Grand Junction on Fridays and Saturdays, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., through Oct. 3. The display shares first-hand Japanese American incarceration experiences and encourages the Grand Valley community to reflect on civil liberties, history, and civic engagement today.
   

3. CMU student arrested following domestic disturbance at campus dorm (kkco11news.com) — An 18-year-old former Colorado Mesa University student was arrested in Grand Junction after police say he entered a woman's dorm room without consent, a dispute turned physical, and her phone was taken so she couldn't call 911. A later search found a gun, suspected cocaine, alcohol, and another person's IDs in his housing, and CMU has since suspended him while the investigation continues.
   

4. Trail Crew completes restoration work of Turner Gulch Fire burn scar (gjsentinel.com) — Mesa County's trail crew has finished repairing the Unaweep Trail south of Grand Junction, clearing debris and fixing drainage damage from the 2025 Turner Gulch Fire. Crews will now shift to maintaining popular systems like 18 Road, Lunch Loops, and Kokopelli, improving conditions for local hikers and bikers across the Grand Valley.
   

5. Colorado traction and chain laws take effect (kkco11news.com) — Colorado's winter traction and chain laws are now in effect, meaning Grand Junction drivers must have proper all-weather or mud-and-snow tires with at least 3/16-inch tread, and many vehicles need chains or traction devices ready. State Patrol urges residents to prepare now, noting most citations last season came along I-70 and that good traction is key to staying in control on snowy or icy roads.
