Yale is notable for being a top Ivy League school with tuition costs more down to earth than most of its peers. But is that vaunted Ivy League education worth the second mortgage?

"It depends on an individual's circumstances," said Stephen Brown, professor emeritus of Management, John F. Welch College of Business at Sacred Heart University in Fairfield. "Generally, Ivy League schools have great facilities and resources for students. After graduation, the brand of quality and exclusivity along with an accomplished alumni network serves graduates extremely well. Any admitted student to an Ivy League student who comes from a family with an annual income at or below $65,000 will receive support for the entire tuition. These factors make Ivy League universities very attractive. The result is that they receive a very high number of applications and admit a small fraction of the applications."

Joining MIT and Yale in WalletHub's Top Five colleges and universities at the lowest possible cost are California Institute of Technology, Princeton and Harvard.
