MIDDLEFIELD, CT — This week, the Picture Connecticut tour takes us to Middlefield and the sunflower maze at Lyman Orchards.

Lyman Orchards has been a family-owned popular New England destination for more than 275 years and each summer offers the sunflower maze. It opened on July 27, and runs through Aug. 25.

This year, nearly a mile of paths surrounded by 350,000 yellow, orange, and red sunflowers make up a design based on "Chompers," the mascot for Hartford Yard Goats.

Lyman Orchards has once again partnered with Connecticut Children’s Foundation, donating $1 of each ticket purchase to the Children’s Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders.

The 3-acre maze takes about 30 minutes to complete and will be open daily from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The maze offers visitors the opportunity to see butterflies, yellow finches and a scenic backdrop of the surrounding orchard hills.
