GREENWICH, CT — A summertime tradition in the southernmost town is Connecticut is the ferry ride to Island Beach.

The 3.9-acre beach on Long Island Sound, known in local circles as "The Island," has been run by the town of Greenwich for many years. The ferry ride takes beachgoers through Greenwich Harbor, past quaint fishing boats and private yachts and competitive sailboats and even by celebrity homes.

The ferry then heads through a short stretch of open water before reaching the island.
