WATCH: Bear Spotted In Avon
Another bear has been sighted in Avon and an upcoming event will provide information about bear awareness.

AVON, CT - A bear was spotted in Avon recently, according to WFSB. Several bears were also sighted recently at an Avon home.
An upcoming event is intended to inform residents about interactions with bears. "Be Bear Aware" will be May 20 at 6 p.m. at the Avon Free Public Library.
"Black bears are becoming increasingly common in Connecticut as the population continues to grow and expand," the state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection says on its website. "Reports of bear sightings, even in heavily populated residential areas, have been on the rise. "

The DEEP notes that easily accessible food sources often lead to encounters with bears.
"Bears normally leave an area once they have sensed a human. If you see a bear, enjoy it from a distance. Aggression by bears towards humans is exceptionally rare."
