Police ID Man Killed On Berlin Turnpike: Berlin PD: UPDATE

The man was hit while crossing a busy section of roadway.

BERLIN, CT β€” A 68-year-old man was killed Monday morning when he was struck by a vehicle on Route 5 in Berlin, according to local police.

According to the Berlin Police Department, the man β€” identified as Berlin resident Charles Bach, 68 β€” was struck near Route 5's intersection with Spruce Brook Road at about 5:06 a.m. Monday.

Police said the pedestrian was attempting to cross the Berlin Turnpike and was struck and fatally injured by a vehicle traveling northbound.

The Berlin Turnpike had to be closed temporarily while the crash was being investigated but it has
since been reopened.

The victim's identification is being withheld pending notification of the family, according to the BPD.

The multi-agency MSARS Crash Reconstruction Team was called to the scene to assist with the investigation.

Berlin police said the driver of the vehicle stopped and is cooperating with investigators.

Police said the morning's rainy weather may have contributed to the incident.

"Weather and reduced visibility may have been a factor in the crash," wrote Berlin PD Deputy Chief Drew Gallupe . "No charges have been filed and the crash remains under investigation.
