New Berlin Library Organization System Gets User Vote Of Confidence

Recent quiz results of patrons show folks find books at the library easier with the new system at the Berlin-Peck Memorial Library.

BERLIN, CT — The Berlin-Peck Memorial Library's new book organization system that will be implemented next month appears to have gotten a community vote of confidence.

A recent "quiz" that tested whether the new "Pecking Order System" of book organization is easier for patrons over the traditional "Dewey Decimal System" shows patrons like the Peck.

According to library officials, volunteer quiz takers were given questions to answer to test the book organization systems.

The library, located at 234 Kensington Road, Berlin, learned that the Pecking system (named after the library's namesake) is easier to use than Dewey.

"Thank you to everyone who participated in our recent quiz comparing the Dewey Decimal System with our new Pecking Order system," wrote the library Tuesday.

"Patrons who took the quiz were much more accurate when determining where a book belonged in The Pecking Order than the Dewey Decimal System."

According to the library, on the Dewey Decimal System side, the average score was 4 out of 10, with a high score of 8 (achieved by four participants).

But on the Pecking Order side, "we saw an impressive average score of 9.9 out of 10."

"In fact, only one person scored less than 10. We think the results speak for themselves," wrote the library.
