📰 News we're reading

1. Bridgeport Residents Asked To Report Flood Damage From Weekend's Rainstorm (patch.com) — Bridgeport residents are being urged to report any property damage from Sunday's flooding by Sept. 22 using the state's CrisisTrack survey, which will help officials document the storm's impact in the city. Mayor Joe Ganim stresses that thorough reporting from Bridgeport households can strengthen the case for potential federal disaster assistance, even though submitting information does not guarantee financial aid. Residents are also encouraged to share the survey link or QR code with neighbors who experienced flooding.

2. Huge Reward Offered In Bridgeport For Information Leading To Arrest In 2020 Murder: Police (patch.com) — Bridgeport police are offering a $50,000 reward for information leading to an arrest in the 2020 killing of 24-year-old Heriberto Marquez, who was fatally shot near Iranistan Avenue and Hanover Street. Detectives say they have persons of interest and hope the sizable reward, funded by the state's Division of Criminal Justice, will prompt Bridgeport residents to share any tips that could move the case forward.

3. St. Vincent's kicks off annual House of Hope Food Drive (wtnh.com) — St. Vincent's Medical Center and Aquarion Water Authority have launched their House of Hope Food Drive in Bridgeport, accepting donations around the clock through mid-November. Food collected will support pantries in Bridgeport and nearby towns, addressing high local food insecurity and rising costs that make healthy options harder for many residents to afford.

4. Connecticut police agencies rally behind Bridgeport officer fighting aggressive lung cancer (ctpost.com) — A Bridgeport police officer, Steven Teixeira, is fighting an aggressive form of lung cancer and will be out of work for an extended period, prompting a Spotfund campaign that has already raised over $52,000. Police agencies from nearby towns like Shelton and Trumbull are publicly rallying behind him, encouraging residents to keep the officer and his family in their thoughts.
