As the summer days heat up we need to recognize the special needs of our four legged friends. Our animals are especially vulnerable to dehydration and overheating as the mercury begins to rise. Below are a few tips to help keep your dog safe and happy.
1. Hydration is Key! Make sure that you supply your pet with plenty of cool fresh water. There are many collapsible bowls on the market, allowing you to easily provide you pet with a souse of water.

2. Can’t Touch This. Remember that surfaces get hot. Try outfitting you dog with boots so that they don’t burn themselves on the hot pavement.

3. Early Birds and Night Owls! Exercise is an important part of your dog day. As the Days get hotter, try moving your exercise times to early morning or late afternoon/evening. The cooler temperature will make playtime much more enjoyable for both you and your dog.
4. Wet and Wild! Water is a great way to let your dog play as they cool down. Kiddie pools, sprinklers, and swimming are all great ways to enjoy summer while staying cool, if all else fails wet down a towel for your dog to lay on.
Remember that high temperatures mean extra attention should be paid to our pets. Excessive panting, excessive drooling, and bloodshot eyes are all warning sign of overheating. Take precautions to keep your animal safe.
