Here they come... the holidays. Bringing with them lights, and bows, and parties, and more sweets than you can actually wrap your mind around.
First it is Halloween. Oh, that's for the kids. They're the ones who get the candy then.
Really? If you are a parent, just how much of that candy are you going to "sample" too? Here... I'll go first. If it involves Butterfingers, candy corn, or anything mint, I'm in trouble.
If you don't have kids, but live in a neighborhood, I'll bet it isn't the dog who gets the leftovers in the bowl at the end of the night. (Be honest with yourself here - no one is listening, and health coaches don't judge!)
Okay, then there's the biggies. Thanksgiving and Christmas. The endless parade of parties, from offices, to the neighborhood, to the family shindigs.
And if any of those events bring a little extra stress, I'm going to go ahead and guess a few extra sweets just might be consumed... even more than you might usually indulge.
Let me say this out front: I am not anti-sweets. I am not anti-celebration or even anti-indulgence from time to time. I love them all. But processed sugar and all the artificial stuff thrown in these "treats" are concerns. One only has to look as far as the studies in obesity and related disease, the connection of sugar to cancer, and the ingredients other countries ban but we keep hoovering, and you know.
And there is a healthier way.
Do you worry about the artificial crap that your kids consume in bulk form around Halloween? Do the holidays cause you stress? And are you already cringing at the idea of either that "holiday five" pounds, or paying penance at the gym come Januay?
It doesn't have to be this way, it really doesn't.
There are two Green Halloween events for the kiddos being held at The Little Green Tambourine in Canton on October 23rd. We're going to celebrate in style, and with amazing food, and your kid will only come home wired from the fun (and not the processed sugar and dye that comes from gosh only knows where). Call (860) 261-7365 for details and tell Suzanne I sent you. I'll see you there in the silliest costume I can dream up.
Then for the adults... please join me for "From Sugar Blues to Sweet Indulgence" on October 17th at 7pm (per-registration required - details HERE) to learn how to indulge in sweets the healthy way. I'll even feed you.
Next, on November 21st at 7pm, we Stop the Holiday Overwhelm, with solid strategies for navigating the holidays and avoiding the weight gain. (details HERE).
I hope you'll join me and learn that while life is sweet, it can be even sweeter with a few great tools to rely on and a few decadent substitutions for the usual sweets swapped in!
