Welcome to my blog! I am a nurse and private instructor for special needs children/adults. Before establishing my current practice, I worked at Hartford Hospital for ten years: six years in the neonatal intensive care unit and four years in the operating room. I left nursing to homeschool my three children, K-12. In the final four years of our homeschooling experience, I taught for four summers in Wesleyan University's Upward Bound Program (UB). This was a program for low-income, first-generation college bound students. I was hired as the special education instructor for high school students who struggled with reading and writing. I was also commissioned to instruct UB’s international students who came from China, Bangladesh, Ghana, Sierra Leone, Burundi, and Jamaica.
Learning does not have to be a constant struggle, even for children with special needs. In my upcoming blogs, I will share brain-based methods of learning that work!
