PD Reports Vehicle Thefts, Seeks Public's Help ID'ing Suspects

The Danbury thefts occurred in the early morning hours of Friday, July 20.

DANBURY, CT -- Danbury police officers responded to several reports of car break-ins and three auto theft complaints in the area of Hillandale Road, East Gate Road, Westville Avenue and Town Hill Avenue early Friday morning.

The stolen vehicles were unlocked with the keys left inside. The other vehicles left unlocked had been gone through.

Danbury Police are distributing still photographs of the suspects and are asking for the public to provide any information they have to help identify them. The Danbury Police investigation is ongoing.

The Danbury thefts are the latest in a widening pattern of overnight vehicle burglaries. Monroe police are reporting a series of overnight motor vehicle burglaries, from Wednesday, July 11, into Thursday, July 12. Last week, vehicles were broken into in multiple sites in New Milford, and an unlocked Porsche was stolen and two other vehicles burglarized in Wilton. Weston Police are investigating thefts from two motor vehicles reported July 2. Two cars were stolen last month in Newtown after their owners left the keys inside the vehicle.

The Danbury PD is urging the public to:

  • Never leave your car running with the keys in the ignition when you are away from it, even for “just a minute”
  • Always roll up the windows and lock the car even in front of your home
  • Never leave valuables in plain view inside your car, even if it is locked
  • Park in busy, well-lit areas
  • Not leave wallets, purses, passports, or other important documents inside your vehicle
  • Do not touch anything if your car is broken into. Report it to the Police Department immediately.
